Research
Nanostructured materials are attracting much attention because of their unique characteristics. We are trying to synthesize nanostructured materials that are NOT reported elsewhere. For example, we have fabricated several kinds of noble metal nanoparticles with controlled shape and alignment. Some of them showed unique photocatalytic properties and others showed a possibility to be used as an ultra-thin polarizer. The application field of our nanomaterials is diverse, but is normally related to optics.
Theme1:Liquid synthesis of noble metal nanoparticle-containing materials with highly ordered nanostructures and the optical and photocatalytic properties
Overview
Noble metal nanoparticle-deposited mesoporous metal oxides are synthesized. The well-aligned and shape-controlled nanoparticles in the mesochannels exhibit unique optical and photocatalytic properties. Solar water splitting for hydrogen generation is one of the main research topics recently.

Theme2:Fabrication of AgX nanoparticle-containing inorganic-organic hybrid materials and their application to hologram materials
Overview
AgX nanoparticle-containing inorganic-organic hybrid materials are fabricated via the sol-gel route. The materials show unique reversible photo-responses thus the application of them to hologram materials is being examined.
