Research

1. A study on problems of urban and farm land use mainly in fringe areas between cities and rural areas. The purpose of this theme is to improve present shortage of land use control system against sprawl in Japanese local cities.
2. A study on history about urban formation and urban planning in local cities of Japanese modern age. The purpose of this theme is to understand and utilize diverse, abundant, and characteristic knowledge, from thought to technique, of past urban planning which has been forgotten.

Theme1：Study on Land Use and Urban Structure Formation

Overview

building activity tendency in Toyohashi after 'urban facility optimization plan'

Under the era of depopulation and low economic development, the transformation to Compact City is necessary. In order to realize it effectively, land use planning and urban structure formation is more important as the planning method. In this theme, I focus especially on suburban area of Japanese local city and target Urban planning area, Area division system, Development permission system, District planning system, or Ordinance by local municipality. Through the empirical method, by clarifying the gap between actual situation and institution, I investigate the fundamental issues.

Theme2：Study on Urban Resilience and Disaster Prevention Planning

Overview

District Plan in flooding hazard area of Urbanization Control Area (Keno-Tobu industrial district in Ashikaga city)

Under the depopulation society, it is necessary to be designated Urban Plan in the difficult condition anticipating the future. Additionally, after the Great East Japan Earthquake, the importance of urban disaster prevention planning has been accelerated. In the theme, I consider the planning method of urban resilience and urban disaster prevention planning especially in the viewpoint of land use plan.

Theme3：Study on History of Modern Urban Planning and Urban Design

Overview

Sewari-Tsuro (Backside alley) by Post-war reconstruction project and site reformation (Okayama City)

In this theme I clarify the applying process of modern urban technology and thought in Japan and real urban formation process especially in local city through the excavation of new historical documents. Additionally, I consider the value of it today. Because historical resource and urban design are closely related each other, I practice the upgrading of urban environment and townscape in the case study city, finding original planning resource.
